Blazer softball keeps hot streak alive

The Gardner Edgerton Lady Blazers’ varsity softball team had a busy week in late April, playing April 24, 25 and 27.

In the first game of the week, the Blazers hosted the St. James Academy Thunder. Pitcher Ava Yokley did great work on the mound for the Blazers, throwing a shutout and allowing just five hits, with two strikeouts. On offense, the Lady Blazers were led by Charlee Latteman and Raegan Lundy, who had two hits and two RBIs each. In the end, the Blazers chalked up a victory, winning 5-0.

On April 25, the Blazers hosted again, this time to Lawrence Free State. Pitcher Ava Blanton was on the mound and held some good hitters to four runs. Maileigh King, Kiera Armato, Logan Ringel and Charlee Latteman each had two hits to help in the 8-4 win.

On April 27, the Lady Blazers traveled to Lawrence to take on the Chesty Lions. Pitcher Ava Blanton controlled the game from the mound, throwing her best game of the season, allowing only two hits, and striking out 10 batters. Maileigh King went 3-4 at the plate, while Charlee Latteman and Raegan Lundy stayed hot at the plate with two hits each. Lundy had four of the seven RBIs in the Blazers 7-2 win.
