Olathe Naval Air Station celebrates

The Commemorative Air Force-Heart of America Wing celebrated the 80 th Anniversary of the Olathe Naval Air Station and the 55th Anniversary of the Johnson County Airport Commission on Saturday, October 1st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Century Airport, Hangar 6.

It was also the final Wing Open House of the year. Gardner Museum displayed part of its collection of ONAS artifacts and documents, the Vietnam Veterans Association Huey and CH-47 helicopters drew a large crowd and Colonel Dennis Okerstrom’s L-2 was on display.

The HOAWing Stearman gave rides to attendees. Other activities included flight simulators, kids activities, a paper airplane contest, hotdogs and cake, the navy dog tag machine and more.
