Derrick Abromeit The Varsity tennis team traveled north to the Leavenworth Quad on Thursday for their second competition of the week. The results were mixed, as the Blazers were swept 4-0 the opening meet against Lawrence High, but then defeated both Shawnee Mission North and the host Leavenworth with 4-0 scores.

Trailblazers offense overpowers SME

Pete Logan Behind the three-headed offensive monster of junior fullback Dawson Kindler, senior quarterback Conner Elder, and junior wide receiver Colton Hawkinson, the Gardner Edgerton High School football dismantled visiting Shawnee Mission East’s defense and pounded their way to a dominant 63-32 opening-night victory Friday evening at Gardner Edgerton District Activities Center. Kindler paced the Trailblazers by rushing the ball 22 times for 160 yards (7.3 yds./carry) and a whopping 5 touchdowns, while Elder was 7-for-10 passing for 200 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 interception and also carried the ball 3 times for 13 yards, and Hawkinson hauled in 3 receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown, while also going 1-for-1 passing for 25 yards.

Pitch, Hit and Run Competition

Gardner Parks and Rec held their annual Pitch, Hit and Run Competition Saturday, July 16. The one day event, sponsored by Major League Baseball, was held at the Gardner Edgerton High School Baseball fields for kids 7 to 14 years of age. It is the official skills competition of the Major League Baseball with the event being at the Local level—the first of four levels that include Sectionals, Regionals and Nationals.
